Sometimes I have to remind myself what decade that I live in. This story has been making its rounds, and I can’t believe that this story happened any time one month after 9/11.
If you haven’t heard the story, a 14-year-old boy named Ahmed Mohamed arrived at school with a digital clock that he built from scratch. He was very proud of it, and it was probably a job with a circuit board, power supply, and digital display.
By the end of the day, his school principal showed up in his class with a police officer, and Ahmed was arrested for building a bomb. He claims that he was interrogated by five different officers, and his fingerprints were taken.
I’m guessing this is probably unconstitutional, and if this had been some kid without a Muslim-sounding name, we wouldn’t hear this story. I’m assuming that those that thought Ahmed should be arrested without proving that he had even built a bomb watched too much episodes of 24.
Yeah, there’s a lot of people who support Ahmed, hence the #IStandWithAhmed in my title. I can’t believe that we are paranoid about this, and it has been almost fifteen years since 9/11. And in all that time, has there been another attack? Please tell me that this will not happen again.
