Apple Watch can work with a GoPro, will Apple buy GoPro?

GoPro HeroThere is a new Apple Watch compatibility application that allows the watch to control GoPros. That’s right, imagine controlling one of those cool cameras that everyone has to have.

This application will allow GoPro users to record videos, preview shots, and adding “HiLight” bookmarks. This has allows a lot of videos to show up on YouTube done with Apple Watches.

You want to hear some more interesting news? As it turns out, it is rumored that Apple is going to acquire GoPro. Now, Apple hasn’t made any formal announcement of this, and this could be a rumor just to get GoPro’s stock price to go up.

Hello rumors! I’ve never heard of Apple buying something like this, but whatever. So, this might not have any bearing, but hey, you realize that I report on news that could happen, not necessarily about what will happen or has happened.

Xiaomi Yi Action Camera could compete with GoPro

Xiamoi YiI think that we all know how much GoPro has changed the video world forever, so it stands to reason that there will be imitators. What makes it interesting, not to mention newsworthy, is how Xiaomi’s Yi Action Camera is able to keep up.

The Yi Action Camera has the same features as a GoPro. They are made for built-in Wi-Fi for file transfers and remote control via companion applications. They are also good with battery capacity, and made for on the go situations.

The GoPro Hero can shoot at 5 Megapixel resolution and can record video at 1080p at 30 fps or 720 video at 60 fps. The Yi Action camera can shoot photos at 16 Megapixels or record 1080p video at 60 fps. The Yi Action Camera can also do 155 degrees while the GoPro Hero is capable of a bit bigger at 170 degrees.

Keep in mind, this is the GoPro Hero that we are comparing it to, and right now, the company has the HERO4 which is capable of 4K video. Those cost a pretty penny, and some of the older version of the Hero also cost.

The Yi Action Camera costs about $65, which is about half the price of a GoPro Hero. Now, this is a product that will probably be marketed in Asia, but I see Xiaomi able to make products for all of the world.

Steadicam Curve from Tiffen, for GoPro Balance!

Steadicam-Curve6-300x300If you have heard of GoPro, then you know that these cameras are synonymous with a lifestyle of snowboarding or BMX biking. I would imagine that unless you like that shaky-cam effect in overdone action movies of today, you are going to want some kind of Steadicam for your GoPro. Enter the Steadicam Curve by Tiffen.

The Steadicam Curve is made for the GoPro HD HERO, HERO 2, HERO 3, and HERO 3+ cameras. Just to let you know, you will need a GoPro LCD BacPac, LCD Touch BacPac, or Curve Weight kit. Once you have it set up with all the proper weights in place, you will discover that you can run with your GoPro, and it will have some smooth action.

This is one of those products that is going to be hard to explain how it works. I felt that the official video would do a better job of explaining it than I, but there is a part that hangs off the curve that you can grab. After that, your GoPro camera will be balanced, and this dangling part can join with the curve should you just want to hold it in spite of the possible shakes.

All in all, the Steadicam Curve is a needed product since we live in a Steadicam age. If you have a GoPro camera like the types I listed above, I would recommend it. You can get it on the Tiffen site here for about $99.95 in Black, Blue, Red, and Silver.

Joby Action Series Day, Part 1: Action Clamp + GorillaPod Arm

Action Clamp JobyAs you can see, we are having a Joby Action Series Day here at TheGeekChurch. Why not? We had headphones day last Friday.

If you don’t know about Joby, they are very famous for their flexible type of mounting that you see in the image here, an award-winning Gorillapod. Their flexible tripods and other accessories really come in handy for times when you want to put a camera in a very tricky place for a cool shot.

This Action Clamp + GorillaPodArm is made for those who have the GoPro camera. I’m just going to assume that you know what a GoPro camera is. You know, those tiny little cameras made for real “extreme” adventures? Hopefully, we will review one of them on this blog here. For now, we will just assume that you have one.

So when you have your GoPro camera mounted on this Action Clamp + GorillaPod Arm, you can lock it safely into place on a bannister or something with the Action Clamp, and then bend the GorillaPod Arm for that precise shot. For example, if you are a skateboarder, put the camera up and get ready to get a shot of a stunt that I would never do even if I was wearing a suit of armor.

Yeah, I may not be “extreme” enough for this particular product, but if you want a “selfie” of you doing some really dangerous activities, this is the camera for you.

Now, here’s the deal. I don’t have a price. I know I usually have price at the end of these reviews, but not today. Here’s a link to the JOBY website for some more information, but the price is TBD unless I can get a correction here.
