Hasbro goes all out with Angry Birds Star Wars toys

November 20, 2013 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

Angry Birds Star Wars Star DestroyerI suppose that I could have entitled this post with “Hasbro goes to a galaxy far, far away with the Angry Birds Star Wars toys”. Get it? It’s a Star Wars joke, and…they’ve been done to death. I had a chance to try out some of the new toys that Hasbro has to tie-in with the major franchise of Angry Birds, which ties in to one of the most popular franchises, ever.

Let me start by saying that if you have ever been or still are addicted to flinging birds at structures that fall apart if you hit them right, the Angry Birds Star Wars Telepods Star Destroyer set is your table-top game. Not only can you fling birds in the third dimension, but you can fling three birds at once. All you need to do set up the Star Destroyer, and fling away.

In addition to being a realistic set up of one of the most popular gaming apps of all time, it also includes Telepods. If you haven’t heard about Telepods, let me tell you about them. Hasbro includes these Angry Birds figurines that can enter into the game, thanks to special codes on the bottom. There is this Telepod thing that looks like a tiny transparent TARDIS from Doctor Who, and you need to put that on the front-facing camera along with the figurine. Suddenly, that character enters into the action of the game. Just try it if you haven’t as yet.

The biggest set is the aforementioned Star Destroyer Set which is about $39.99 and available here. You can get a set of six figures for $9.99, and some of the smaller sets at $14.99-$19.99.

Angry Birds Star Wars JengaJust in case you are interested in any other tabletop action for Angry Birds Star Wars, you might want to check out the Rise of Darth Vader Game. This game has the Jenga label on it, but I don’t ever remember flinging birds at Jenga towers. The idea of flinging the Jedi birds at the Sith Lord pigs on the giant Darth Vader head is quite something.

Now as far as I can tell, it doesn’t look like you can use the figurines in the Rise of Darth Vader Jenga game with the Telepods. At least there are some exclusive figurines, and that goes for the one in that previously mentioned Star Wars set. If you are interested in that set, you can get it here for $29.99.
