I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the Wii U, and yeah, its sales have not been good enough so that Nintendo may never give it a sequel. The problem is this could be an end to certain beloved characters like Mario, and I've heard it said that even a new Legend of Zelda gamed could not resurrect Nintendo's glory. That is a shame, because I would hate to lose Metroid. … [Read more...] about Nintendo, please bring back Metroid!

E.T. Atari 2600 game found
In this next week, I am going to be changing gears on this blog and will devote my time writing on it to more serious technological comics. Sure, it will still be geeky, and who knows, I might report on stuff like this in the future. I will have to say that I have a kind of personal connection to this. As a kid, I loved the Atari 2600, and I also liked E.T.. When the … [Read more...] about E.T. Atari 2600 game found
Control this Game with just your voice
I have talked about that perhaps we are hitting a creative barrier with video games. I mean, video games are all about what can happen with current controllers, unless they can see how you feel. I remember that when the Kinect came out, the big advertising campaign said: "You are the controller". Imagine a game that involves just your voice as a controller. This is what … [Read more...] about Control this Game with just your voice
Stanford University has a video game controller that knows how the user feels
I think we all know that controllers like the Kinect can "see" you and allow you to manipulate them via gesture controls. Is it any wonder that Stanford University is developing controllers to sense the user's...feelings? Seriously, that is what is happening. Apparently, these controllers can sense how fast the heart is beating, as well as how much oxygen is in the … [Read more...] about Stanford University has a video game controller that knows how the user feels
Facebook buys Oculus Rift
I'm sure that you heard about the Oculus Rift, a Virtual reality system that we at The Geek Church have covered many a time. Well, I have some either good news or bad news, depending on how you interpret it. Yeah, Facebook bought or, ahem, acquired Oculus Rift for about 2 billion. I'm not certain what inspired this action on Facebook's part, but not everyone is glad at … [Read more...] about Facebook buys Oculus Rift
Sony unveils the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset for the Playstation 4
Some of you might remember when I mentioned that EA could possibly looking into virtual reality. I have to admit that I didn't really think much of that, but an announcement by Sony has really changed my tune. What you are seeing in this photo is Sony's prototype known as "Project Morpheus", unveiled at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco. It was shown off … [Read more...] about Sony unveils the Project Morpheus virtual reality headset for the Playstation 4
Age of Music Gaming wraps up with closing of Music Hero downloads
I always knew that a day like this would come, the day when you would not be able to purchase downloadable songs for Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, Band Hero, and Guitar Hero Mobile. I suppose that this is really a sign of the times, and a sign that music gaming has really ended. Man, why does it seem like only yesterday I was playing Rock Band and thinking this was the best thing … [Read more...] about Age of Music Gaming wraps up with closing of Music Hero downloads
Amazon making a game-box? Controller could be proof.
I usually try not to report on rumors on this blog, and there has been one going around about Amazon creating a "game-box" for the television. I believe this game-box would be good for Amazon video content as well as Android apps, like those on the Kindle Fire. I suppose this controller is probably the best proof for an Amazon "game-box", is the fact there is a controller … [Read more...] about Amazon making a game-box? Controller could be proof.
Electronic Arts to work with virtual reality?
In case you don't know, there is a big conference in Austin known as South by Southwest (SXSW), and it is devoted to film, music, and other media. Andrew Wilson, from Electronic Arts (EA), didn't really have much to stay about virtual reality (VR), but he did bring up something interesting. According to my Source, the man from the second-biggest video game company in the … [Read more...] about Electronic Arts to work with virtual reality?
Hands on with Disney Infinity
I can honestly say that I can't say enough about Disney Infinity. If you aren't familiar with Disney Infinity, I am not certain how I can describe it. I'll start by saying that it is a game that is many games, and it uses physical objects to interact with virtual ones. This is very similar to a popular video game series Skylanders which uses action figures that you put … [Read more...] about Hands on with Disney Infinity
My Review of the Siberia Elite from SteelSeries
Ever since I heard that SteelSeries was releasing the Siberia Elite from SteelSeries, I have been wanting to review them myself. I finally got the chance, and I can tell you that if these headphones won't get you into your game, I am not certain what will. I believe that this is designed for PC gaming, and it comes with a USB sound card with digital processing. The user … [Read more...] about My Review of the Siberia Elite from SteelSeries
Rovio adding another to the Angry Birds franchise with “Stella”
Now that the fad of Flappy Bird is pretty much ended, I guess Rovio felt a need to announce another Angry Birds game. This one is known as simply Stella, like the one in A Streetcar Named Desire. Very little is known about this game, but I don't think it will emphasize slingshots and knocking down stuff. This one appears to be about inspiration, empowerment, as well as … [Read more...] about Rovio adding another to the Angry Birds franchise with “Stella”
How to put yourself in a game
I think it is interesting to see how realistic video game characters are becoming. Just take a look at Link, Mario, and Samus Aran look almost human. What if there is a way to put yourself in a video game? This is now possible thanks to Ari Shapiro at the Institute for Creative Technologies at USC. Their system known as Fast Avatar Capture, involves using a Kinect to … [Read more...] about How to put yourself in a game
Tobii and YEI Technology show the future of gaming at CES Unveiled
In the future, will we be wearing our game for a completely immersive experience? I honestly don't see why not. Yesterday, at CES Unveiled, I saw not one, but two technologies that could change the way we game, if combined. I'll start with YEI Technology. This company puts out a suit/controller known as PrioVR, and it is cable of turning one's body into a controller. … [Read more...] about Tobii and YEI Technology show the future of gaming at CES Unveiled
My Review of Lego Marvel Heroes
Unlike my last review of the Golf-X-Cube, I actually have a lot of experience playing LEGO-oriented video games. In fact, I have everyone that they have made since the first LEGO Star Wars, and I love them a lot, even though they have changed very little since their conception. For those that are not familiar with them, the LEGO games are usually tied in with a popular … [Read more...] about My Review of Lego Marvel Heroes
