I guess this is one of those articles that I just "had" to write, but chances are, you probably already heard about it. So, here it is: Microsoft has bought Mojang, creator of Minecraft. If you don't know what Minecraft is, all I have to say is: where have you been? My kids are into this game that allows for building all kinds of things with 1 x 1 blocks. In all … [Read more...] about Microsoft to purchase Minecraft maker Mojang

We’re here at PAX Prime 2014 in Seattle!
Should I say anything more? Well, for those who don't know, PAX Prime is a big Gamers convention in Seattle. There are more of them, like PAX East, PAX South, PAX Aus, and PAX Dev, all at different locations, but I don't really know much about the last one. Unlike some gaming conventions, this one is not made for the gaming industry. PAX began in Seattle, and it was … [Read more...] about We’re here at PAX Prime 2014 in Seattle!
Nvidia Shield Tablet gets an upgrade
You might remember when we first reported on the Nvidia Shield, and it looks like it has been given an upgrade. The Shield is a tablet-like device that is specifically designed for gaming, and this one is larger at 8 inches. It also runs KitKat (Android 4.4), has a Micro SD expansion slot for boosting internal storage up to 128GB, and has both front and rear facing … [Read more...] about Nvidia Shield Tablet gets an upgrade
Google wants to give you control over its Android TV
I realize that I spent a lot of time yesterday talking about Google I/O's cardboard, but I really should have been talking about Android TV. Apparently, I must have missed reporting on that, but if you can make developing apps for smart televisions, you should do it. Now, Android TV allows users to mirror apps on their big screen as well as their tablet or smartphone. I … [Read more...] about Google wants to give you control over its Android TV
Steve Jackson’s Sorcery comes alive on your mobile phone (Chapter 1)
For some reason, I seem to be reviewing a lot of adventure games, as The Last Door and Quest for Infamy were on my game playlist. I happened to try out Steve Jackson's Sorcery for the mobile phone platform, and I will say that it is complex as it is interesting. If you don't know who Steve Jackson is, I understand. He is a big name in the role-playing game world, … [Read more...] about Steve Jackson’s Sorcery comes alive on your mobile phone (Chapter 1)
Quest for Infamy, another terrific point-and-click adventure game
Some of you might remember my review of The Last Door last week, and how I liked playing these old-school point-and-click adventure games, even if they had graphics like...The Last Door. I found another game on Steam known as Quest for Infamy which has a lot better resolution and gameplay that is just, if even not more, fun. Quest for Infamy is essentially a … [Read more...] about Quest for Infamy, another terrific point-and-click adventure game
Big Announcements for E3 2014
Okay, if you aren't familiar with video games, there is a big convention in LA every year known as E3. We at TheGeekChurch.com haven't been for a few years. By we, I mean me. However, I like to make certain that my readers know what's up with video games, so here's the skinny for the big three this year. Nintendo: I know that I have said that this company's days are … [Read more...] about Big Announcements for E3 2014
Nyko Charge Base for the PS4
I have reviewed Nyko products before, and this is the first one that I reviewed for the PS4. The Charge Base for the PS4 is related to the Charge Base PS3, and works in a similar fashion. The Charge Base for the PS4 has these two custom USB charge adaptors that can attach to the micro-USB part of the controller. The adaptors can lock into the base which is plugged into … [Read more...] about Nyko Charge Base for the PS4
Plantronics RIG Headset and Mixer
I'm not certain if Plantronics' RIG should always be capitalized, but right now, it is speaking in all capitals on my ears. Seriously, this pair of headphones has some serious bass that is rocking me with 40 mm speaker drivers. The RIG is designed for the PC, Xbox, or PS3, but it is also made for the mobile in mind. You can see in the illustration here this circular thing … [Read more...] about Plantronics RIG Headset and Mixer
Mionix NASH 20 Gaming Headphones
I've had a chance to review a lot of gaming headphones in the past, such as those from SteelSeries, and I was pleased to try out the NASH 20 from Mionix. The NASH 20 has a 18mm memory foam headband with a soft touch rubber coated surface. It has swivel ear cups and 22 mm memory foam ear pads. I'm not certain why they chose black as their color, but hey, it is pretty … [Read more...] about Mionix NASH 20 Gaming Headphones
Loading Human is a VR game that I want to play right now!
I know that yesterday I talked about a video game franchise that is on the cusp of dying (Metroid, please don't let it die). Today I'm going to talk about a video game that is on the cusp of setting a new standard. What are seeing here in the image is a screenshot from a named called Loading Human. Do not confuse this with Almost Human, a series that sadly is planned to … [Read more...] about Loading Human is a VR game that I want to play right now!
Nintendo, please bring back Metroid!
I've been hearing a lot of bad things about the Wii U, and yeah, its sales have not been good enough so that Nintendo may never give it a sequel. The problem is this could be an end to certain beloved characters like Mario, and I've heard it said that even a new Legend of Zelda gamed could not resurrect Nintendo's glory. That is a shame, because I would hate to lose Metroid. … [Read more...] about Nintendo, please bring back Metroid!
E.T. Atari 2600 game found
In this next week, I am going to be changing gears on this blog and will devote my time writing on it to more serious technological comics. Sure, it will still be geeky, and who knows, I might report on stuff like this in the future. I will have to say that I have a kind of personal connection to this. As a kid, I loved the Atari 2600, and I also liked E.T.. When the … [Read more...] about E.T. Atari 2600 game found
Control this Game with just your voice
I have talked about that perhaps we are hitting a creative barrier with video games. I mean, video games are all about what can happen with current controllers, unless they can see how you feel. I remember that when the Kinect came out, the big advertising campaign said: "You are the controller". Imagine a game that involves just your voice as a controller. This is what … [Read more...] about Control this Game with just your voice
Stanford University has a video game controller that knows how the user feels
I think we all know that controllers like the Kinect can "see" you and allow you to manipulate them via gesture controls. Is it any wonder that Stanford University is developing controllers to sense the user's...feelings? Seriously, that is what is happening. Apparently, these controllers can sense how fast the heart is beating, as well as how much oxygen is in the … [Read more...] about Stanford University has a video game controller that knows how the user feels
