Last night at CES Unveiled, I began to notice trends. One of them was toward wearable technology, which I saw a lot of for last year’s CES. I also noticed that there was a lot of emphasis on a “Connected Home”, which I have also seen at CES in the past. Then I noticed something interesting: cameras that can film in 360. I suppose it was really just an offshoot of the Oculus Rift, the camera that allows for viewing in three dimensions. So when you turn your head, you see what is behind the film shooter’s back.
I saw two demonstrations of this type of technology. The first was the Allie Pro from IC Real. It is the world’s first 720-Degree Video camera. It has two lenses for coverage of the floor-to-ceiling for full 360 vertical and full 360 horizontal. It is really designed for security purposes, and you can view the video on an iPad or some other touchscreen device. You can even pan to the ceiling.
The other is the GIROPTIC, and it is a product that I encountered once before with a different name of Geonaute. This one advertises itself as “the World’s First True 360 degree HD Camera”, and I’m going to take its word for it. You might not notice but this has three lenses for capturing all of it. One unique feature is how the GIROPTIC can mount on anything that takes a lightbulb. Yeah, I’ve never seen that before.
Like the Allie Pro, you can watch the footage on a device with a touchscreen, and join the revolution of 360 video. Yeah, it is coming.
