Our Review of the Eufy Video Doorbell

July 29, 2019 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

I have to admit that this is the first time that I have reviewed a video doorbell, and it is a product that now has an entire market around it. Most people think Ring for a video doorbell, just like most people like Roomba for the robot vacuum. Fortunately, Eufy has their Robovacs, and I had a chance to try out their Video Doorbell.

This is one of those products that I had to install to get to work, and it was quite the installation process. I had to find the switch on my fuse box that turned off the power on my doorbell, so I don’t shock myself. For that, I actually was told by the instructions to wire some things on the doorbell transformer together. This meant that not only I had to find my doorbell transformer, but I did a little wiring that turned off the doorbell’s default chime.

After that, I had to unscrew and yank out my doorbell, and it sure was old. I was a little worried about some of the wires, but it came with the electrical stuff that I needed to wire my doorbell.

Once I turned the power on, it told me to wait until the thing was pulsating yellow. The problem is that it kept going red. Now, I don’t normally write about a product that doesn’t work, because it could be that the review unit sent to me was busted. In this case, I believe that this issue could be with my doorbell voltage. I was told that if the the doorbell voltage was not enough, it would not function properly. So, how in the world do I know what the heck my doorbell voltage is? I don’t know, and I have no idea how to increase it.

I’m going to have to say, that I was able to get the device to work. That is something, considering it probably shouldn’t work. I was able to plug in the chime into the plug-in, and I had a functioning doorbell.

Not only that, I had a doorbell that detected a human being (me) when I came to the door later on. It had some kind of video footage ready for me, but there were times where I was able to get it working, and times where it didn’t register at all.

Then there were times where I got a false positive, where I would get an alert and check out the video and see nothing. In its defense, it was a windy day, and could have been the nearby bush blowing its branches near the sensor.

So I am not certain whether I can recommend the product, but I am going to see if I can’t get it working or figure out how to boost my doorbell transformer, or something. I want to make it clear that I am not giving this product a bad review, only that perhaps my house doorbell is older, and it could be an issue there.

If you want to try it out, you can get it on Amazon for $159.99 on the Eufy site.
