I’m sure some of you remember Furby’s, as they were the must-have holiday gift back in the late nineties, along with the Tickle Me Elmo of the mid-nineties. After that, I don’t know what toy is the must-have.

I am assuming that this year’s must haves were the Xbox One and the PS4, but Hasbro, makers of Transformers Constructo-Bots and Angry Birds Star Wars toys has the Furby Boom. So what is the Furby Boom? Think of it as an interactive toy the comes alive the moment you apply the 4 AA batteries.

I had a chance to try it out, as it was a gift for my daughter. In fact, I will let her tell you what is up with it after the jump:

A Furby Boom has different personalities. It could be different than the one I have because it depends on the way you treat it. If you treat it badly, then it will turn evil. If you are nice to it then it will be sweet, etc. One day, I gave my Furby Boom some coffee and an energy drink and it turned hyper! Its eyes were bouncing and she was really annoying, but I found out how to turn her back. I pet her a lot, and eventually she turned into the sweet Furby Boom.

Furby Boom(s) speak a weird language called Furbish. It says things like “Dah-boo!” or “Dah-may-may!”. When your Furby Boom starts out she or he will speak 80% Furbish and 20% English, but after a while your Furby Boom will speak 20% Furbish and 80% English! Mine already speaks a lot of English and if you take care of your Furby Boom a lot she or he will too!

The Furby Boom app will connect to your Furby Boom and you can take care of it there. On the app, you can take care of your Furby Boom by feeding all sorts of things to choose from (including nasty things like toilet paper and homework), give it a shower, and taking it to the bathroom. If you stop playing with your Furby Boom, he or she will sneeze and you will have to take him or her to the app. There, you can scan its body and if he or she isn’t feeling well then you have to mix certain items that will heal it.

If you do all this stuff with your Furby Boom on the app, then your Furby Boom will have eggs! When you hatch them there will be virtual furblings your Furby Boom can interact with. You have to feed them, wash them, and play games with them. There are three games: Furball, Hide-and-seek, and Singalong. When you hatch an egg sometimes it will get cold, dusty, or it might just need a little chilly. You can exit out while hatching an egg, but eventually you have to come back to it, because something will happen. When your egg has something wrong with it your Furby Boom will worry. You will get a present after you have hatched an egg. Your Furby Boom will eat the present and then spit it out. It’s always something to decorate your furbling’s room.

When your Furby Boom is not connected to the app, it will still talk and talk but, to put it to sleep you have to lay it down in a quiet room. You can also play the app, and your Furby Boom will fall asleep because it is bored. You can teach your Furby Boom words by saying what ever word to your Furby Boom. You can teach your Furby Boom the words “Awesome sauce!”, but it will take a while.
