Aerofex creates a “Star Wars” hovercraft

August 21, 2012 By Techno_Mark Leave a Comment

I have been seeing this cool thing on blogs everywhere, and the comparisons to Star Wars are just. However, I see more of a likeness to the landspeeder from the first Star Wars film rather than the speeder bikes from Return of the Jedi.

Maybe it is just the sand of the testing ground for this hovering vehicle. The company Aerofex has been working on this for quite some time, and this allows for flying 15 feet up in the air at a speed of 30 miles per hour.

You can watch the video after the jump and see it in action. Granted, it doesn’t have the sleek and cool speed of Star Wars vehicles, but it does have the maneuverability thing going on.

In case you are dreaming of hovering vehicles, this isn’t really the purpose of this. It is planned to be as a test platform for new unmanned drones, like workhorses that can hover off the ground, swiftly delivering supplies to soldiers in need.

So we aren’t trying to make Star Wars style hover bikes. I see no reason to develop this technology for anything else but that.
