It seems like every year at this time, we review a product for Yubico. Mark talks to them every year at CES, and they come out with new variations on their cyber security products. This is the one we reviewed last year. The one we are reviewing this time around is the YubiKey 5Ci with dual connector for USB-C and Lightning connections.
So here’s a little factoid about internet security that would make an item like this come in handy. Sites like Google suggested 2FA (or Two Factor Authorization). This key will provide that 2FA without the extra hassle. It also has FIDO, FIDO2 and U2F support for single factor passwordless login and multi-factor authentication with user touch and PIN .
This handy little key is super secure and easy to use. You simply plug it in a USB-C slot or on the flip side- a Lightning slot, and tap the gold contact button (which is NOT a biometric reader). You can use it to log into Windows, Google, Facebook, e-mail, and all kinds of other sites. This can give your iPhone versions 6S or older, or for any iPad you may have besides the Pro some extra security. If someone comes across it in a public setting, they won’t be able to get access to anything on your device (unless you have left the key in it).
This security costs $70 for one. The other keys we’ve reviewed were cheaper. There are charts on their site to help you find the YubiKey you would need. You can also purchase multipacks- cost efficient if you are a company using these for employees.
You can find this and other Yubikey products on their website. We received a free one in exchange for our fair and unbiased review. No other compensation has been given.
