Our Review of Nite Ize Steelie Freemount Windshield Kit and Tabletop Stand Component

If you live in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia,  Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands  and have a cell phone, you probably know that it is illegal to hold your phone while driving. But what is a person to do when using their Maps app to navigate? Maybe you want to be like all the people who make videos for social media in their cars? This windshield mounting kit by Nite Ize could be the perfect solution!

The Nite Ize Steelie Freemount Windshield is composed of a couple different parts.  You get the windshield mount which is a metal ball on the end of a suction cup extension.

This attaches easily to the windshield, and adjusts for the viewing angle you desire. It also has a locking lever so you can lock it and release it quickly and easily. The Freemount bracket adjusts to fit most phones from 2.24 inches to 3.54 inches wide.

This kit can be purchased for $44.99 on the Nite Ize website. Here’s a video that explains how the system works:

There are other Steelie Nite Ize solutions for mounting your phone. We also received the tabletop stand component to review. A pretty straightforward system- this stand sits on your desk or table, and can hold a phone or tablet on the magnetic ball.

This system costs $29.99 on the Nite Ize Site and can conveniently tilt your phone at different angles. The downside is that the magnetic attachment on the back of your phone becomes permanent, but if you have the Freemount from the above kit, you could attach it to the Steelie on the tabletop stand. TaDa!

We were sent these products to review free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review, and the verdict from us is that these are both very useful products for those who want a system to hold their phones hands-free.

Nite Ize Products, Part 2: Radiant 300 Rechargeable Lantern, INOVA STS Powerswitch, and NiteHowl Glowing Collar

nite-ize-radiant-300Okay, this is our second day in a row looking at Nite Ize products, and today we are going to discuss the ones that glow. I will start with the Radiant 300 Rechargeable Lantern.

The Nite Ize Radiant 300 Rechargeable Lantern has a one button operation. By clicking it once, you will get a bright white light, and clicking it a few more time will turn the luminousity down. If you hold down the button, then the light will glow red. It shines very brightly, and it has an optical diffuser made for a uniform beam pattern.

What makes the Nite Ize Radiant 300 lantern great is that it is rechargeable, and there are USB ports for charging the lantern as well as a way to allow the lantern to charge mobile devices. Yes, this is a very useful tool to have in this mobile age, and it is available for $44.99 on the Nite Ize site.

nite-ize-inovaThen there is the Nite Ize INOVA STS PowerSwitch, which is a lantern made for the cranium. It has a smaller maximum output of 280 Lumens, but it is just as versatile as the Radiant 300 Rechargeable Lantern.

When the INOVA STS PowerSwitch is attached to your head, you can swipe your finger to turn it on or off. If you swipe to your left you get a white light, swipe left again and you will get a blinking light. Should you swipe to the right, you will get the same results, but with a red light. I had a difficult time getting it to work at first, but I have a hunch that repeated attempts could make it easier.

As for the power, it has a Lithium Ion battery that is rechargeable, or you also have the option of 3 AAA batteries. By the way, it is also IPX7 waterproof.

I would have to say that the INOVA STS PowerSwitch is quite a deal, and it can be purchased on the Nite Ize site for $59.99 along with the accessories of Battery Pack ($24.99), Bike Mount ($6.99), Headlamp Bracket and Strap ($6.99), along with Helmet Mount ($6.99).

nite-ize-nighthowlThis last item is definitely very useful, but only if you are a dog owner. This is the Nite Ize NiteHowl glowing collar.

It is made for dogs with 12-27 inch necks, and you literally have to cut it with scissors or knife to adjust it. It is designed to pop one end in and out for putting on your dog, and the glow can be blinking if you like. It does operate on batteries, so it can glow forever.

However, it is handy to have what looks like a lightsaber around your furry friend’s neck. Like most dog owners, I let me dog out in the dark of night, and now I can see her a whole lot easily.

You can get the NiteHowl glowing collar in Green, Red, Blue, or Orange for about $12.19 on the Nite Ize site.

Nite Ize Products, Part 1: PowerKey, QuikStand, Steelie Vent Mount, and Steelie Freemount

nite-ize-powerkeyToday, I’m going to be reviewing a lot of Nite Ize products, and they are some definite products that are worth having. I’ll start with the PowerKey.

I realize that this looks like an ordinary keychain, and it could easily be used as one. However, what you don’t see is that this thing is a charging/sync cord. The PowerKey Mini Power Cord is made to just join with a USB port, which can be found just about everywhere these days.

So, it certain is useful, isn’t it? That’s right, it is good for Apple Lightning cable for $17.99 and Micro USB for $14.99. In spite of the differing prices, they come in the same colors of Blue, Lime, Smoke, and Orange right here.

nite-ize-powerstandNow, this next product looks like it is a razor blade, at least in the packaging. However, you can see what the product actually does in the picture to the left, because it is a stand for a mobile device.

Best of all, you can fold up this stand into something the size of a credit card, and it can even fit in your wallet. Then, when you are ready to watch video or do some video chatting, you can just prop up that mobile device and get to work. The stand is pretty much adjustable, so you can manipulate the touchscreen at multiple angles.

This one makes a great stocking stuffer, and it can be purchased for a low price of $9.99 right here.

nite-ize-freemount-vent-kitThis last two items is actually made to be combined into one, and I wanted to make certain that you see what they do together. This is the Steelie Freemount and the Vent Mount.

The Vent Mount is what it sounds like, a way to mount a smartphone to the vent of your car. This Vent Mount can clamp on to those Venetian Blind things on your car’s ventilation system. This section has a steel ball on it, and it magnetizes to the Freemount.

The Freemount has a ring that sticks on the Vent Mount and there are clamps to hold the smartphone. You can then easily adjust the angle of viewing in case you want to use your GPS or whatnot.

I believe that the complete set can be purchased on the Nite Ize site for $39.99.

Nite Ize Products Review: Steelie, Inka Mobile Clip Pen + Stylus, Connect Case for iPhone 6, and Handleband (Whew!)

Nite IzeI think we all know that our tablets and phones are convenient to put in our hands, but they are often not very comfortable. A whole slew of accessories has been created just to make certain that we are comfortable with our tablets and smartphones.

The Steelie is a post that you can stick to something of a flat surface, you know, like a tabletop, desk, or something. Now, that has a stickable stand that will attach there pretty permanently. However, on the top of the post will be hemisphere of metal. Now, you can attach this concave dome to your tablet or smartphone, and you have your mobile device on something adjustable.

It really is a terrific product, and if this is something that you are looking for, check it out. You can get it for about $49.99 on the Nite Ize site.

Nite IzeAll right, now let’s get to another smartphone and tablet accessory, the stylus. This is the Inka Mobile Clip Pen + Stylus, and it is both a virtual stylus for your touchscreen and it works as a pen with ink as well.

Yeah, there isn’t really much that I can say about this, but it does have a Quick Clip S-Biner which is made so it stays with you. By the way, I have heard that the pen can write underwater. This used to be a big claim to make in the pen community.

Anyway, you can get the Inka Mobile Clip Pen + Stylus on the Nite Ize Site for $13.99.

Nite IzeNow we come to the part where I talk about Nite Ize’s Connect a case for the iPhone 6. I will have to say that this is one of the thinnest cases that I have ever seen, and it certainly is quite durable plastic.

Then there is the mounting system with an innovative flex hinge for getting the iPhone 6 in. Then there is the connect clip that can be removed. Here is the thing, as I can’t really remove the clip. I tried, but I could probably do it, seriously.

Anyway, it is available in a lot of colors for about $29.99 on the Nite Ize site. It costs a little more if you want the Mossy Oak pattern as it costs $34.99.

Nite IzeThen there is the HandleBand, which is made to be a “Universal Smartphone Bar Mount”. Basically, you put it on a bike handlebars, and you can put your smartphone there.

It is definitely good for those apps that you can use while biking. As an added bonus, the screen is mostly visible. I say mostly visible because the smartphone is held in with this rubberband thing that lets exposes part of the touchscreen. I kind of wish there was some other mechanism to hold it in, but for what it is, it should be good for you.

The Handleband, as well as all of these other products is available on the Nite Ize website for about $19.99. We thank the company for letting us try them.

Steelie Pedestal Kit from Nite Ize

SteelieI had a chance to try out the Steelie Pedestal Kit over the weekend, and I have to say that I have seen products like it before. It is essentially an iPad mount that uses a lot of magnets to keep it in place.

For those who are not familiar with products like these, this has a magnet that you stick to the back of a mobile device. The magnet sticks thanks to some 3M adhesive VHB adhesive foam tape. This magnet is ring shaped and made to stick to a metal ball. This metal ball is on a stand, and the stand has some silicone grips for a stable platform. Once your iPad is stable, you can adjust the angle for viewing your iPad in a stable location.

If you want to get the Steelie Pedestal Kit, head over to the Nite Ize site and lay down about $49.99 for it. You also might want to check out the Steelie Car Mount Kit and Steelie HobKnob Kit, each of them $34.99.
